We had a super nice Christmas

Our favorite pit bull, Violet, came and stayed for Christmas.

She and Corey loved each other

Corey left for The North! just after January first

Kayah started roaming the backyard.

This is a major big deal! Kayah hates grass and is afraid to go outside most days.

Then the new foster showed up.

He is a 12 week old bassador pup named Linus.

He is fascinated by Droopy.

And Smiley is his best best friend and mentor!

So all and all it's been super quiet around here. Nothing super blog worthy but that's ok.

What in the world Momma! What in the world!!!

Droopy here! Momma bought me a product called Doggles (doggie goggles!) to help with my eyes when we're out and about! My eyes tend to get very red and irritated because all the pollen and yucky stuff gets trapped in my droopy eyes. I'll let you know how it goes! Crazy momma!

You might notice there's an extra basset, who isn't Smiley, in the above picture. Well that is Corey and he's our new foster basset. Well he's been here a few weeks and we just haven't had time to post about him!!! Oopsie! He's a super sweet and ridiculously funny boy!!! We're enjoying his stay here. Best part is he loves clothes!!! Momma is having a good time playing dress up with him.

Eye doctor time!

Hey everybody!! Droopy here!

Well Tuesday was my 6 month check up at the doggie eye doctor.

Mom can we go home now?

Mom I really think it's time to go home!

I was very good while we waited and only barked at everybody!!! I even tried to make friends with another dog in the lobby but Mommma said he was too nervous and I needed to leave him alone.

I let the doc poke and prod me and even shine bright lights in my eye!!! Momma said I behaved super well!

The doctor said that my eyes look ok but the tear product (which keeps your eye moist) in my right eye is almost zero! He told Momma I have to have more eye drops everyday!!! I am now up to EIGHT DROPS EVERYDAY!!!!!

Momma is slightly overwhelmed with the amount of drops per day but I am very good when she does my drops. When I see the eye dropper I sit, let Momma do my drops, and then I get a tasty treat!!!!

I have to go back to the eye doctor in two months for a recheck. UGH!

Momma bribed me with lots of cheesy treats and then we went home and took a nice nap.

A Note from Momma

So eight drops a day is a bit overwhelming but left alone the lack of tear production can lead to Droopy's eye getting so scratched that she is blind or the eye needing to be removed. I made a checklist that makes life a little easier and we'll just have to get into the routine of it!!!

Luckily the assortment of drops are easy to get filled at the pharmacy and Droopy is so good about having them done. Plus bribing her with a treat does wonders!!! She's had drops done most of her life and she is so easy to medicate!

The neopolydex is before and after breakfast, the cyclosporin is before and after dinner and then once more in the right eye. and the genteal is at bedtime and then once more in the right eye. It's all about routine!!!

Birthday for a Basset

Droopy was a Christmas present for Momma and to her best guess today is Droopy's Birthday!!!

As you can see Momma and Droopy has grown up quite a bit in the last 13 years. Hehe!

We've been busy basset bees around here!

Our friends Missy and Cisco came and stayed for a few days.

Which made for 4 bassets, 1 basset mix, and 1 mini schnauzer!

And one Dad-O!

Droopy and Smiley went to Barktober fest at Momma's work.

We celebrated Smiley's first gotcha day!!!!

And last but not least:

Duke got ADOPTED!!!!

He now has an awesome sister named Beignet, a really awesome family, and will live next to one the best parks in the city!!! We are so happy for him!

Sorry we've been so absent lately but Momma got sick and her work stuff has been super busy so there's been no time for blogging!!!!!

On to our YAY!

As of Monday, Kayah is an official CheeseHound!!!

Momma and Dad decided to adopt Kayah. It was all Dad's idea... so Momma says. Kayah is super special and is a good fit here in the CheeseHound household. Plus Kayah has been with the rescue group for TWO YEARS and no one has been interested in her. Also Kayah LOVES our Dad. She is always so excited when he comes home!

Well that's cause the CheeseHound household has a new foster hound!

His name is Duke. He's fairly young, about 2. Duke loves to play tug of war with Kayah, which drives Kayah crazy! Droopy ignores him and Smiley shoots him dirty looks. Duke is in good shape and Momma figures he won't stay terribly long.

Smiley and I got to go to the dog park!!! We love the park but we don't get to go everyday cause it's a bit of a ride to get there. Sad thing is it's the only dog park we have in New Orleans!!! We love the name of the park: Nola City Bark! It's so funny cause it's in New Orleans City Park.

Hi Mom!

One neat thing that happens at the park, they have a big party every year to helps raise money to improve the park! So when momma and I went to the park, on Tuesday, the TV people were there filming the pups!

Mom I'm tired from the park! Can we go again next week?

Kayah and the Vet plus POTP

Hey everybody!

Kayah had to go to the Vet but nothing scary, just normal shots. Well first off Kayah HATES car rides. We think it's cause she doesn't see so well and the car rides make her super nervous.

Momma subjected Kayah to the ThunderShirt hoping it would help with Kayah's car anxiety. Well it didn't help but it was the first time she wearing it... Oh well!

Get me outta here!!!!

Kayah was very well behaved during her exam! The vet was very excited to meet Kayah and, of course, thought Kayah was a cutie!!!!

Kayah is now up to date on all her shots, has no worms in her poop, and is heartworm negative!!! Plus Kayah weighed in at 37lbs! She is down 3 lbs!

How funny is this?? Momma and Kayah wound up in a room with a Basset Hound picture!

Well Kayah has since been moping. We think she's just playing it up so Momma feels bad for her. Although she cries when Momma touches one of her injection spots so maybe she really doesn't feel good.

And just for HoundDogMom, Miss Smiley's cute face!!!

And now if you haven't heard our dear friend Cleo of The HoundDogMom Blog is in some serious need of the Power Of The Paw!! She is starting her actupuncture today and needs all the good basset-y (or whatever breed you happen to be) vibes sent her way!!!!!

Mickey got adopted!!!!!

Momma here!

I figured I'd blog about the big even cause the other pups weren't there.

Before I get to the main event I need to tell you guys Mickey's beginnings. Mickey was found in a church parking lot by some construction workers. This was back in February so it was freezing and rainy. Mickey was skin and bone and the most pitiful thing you've ever seen.

I know some of these pictures are a bit graphic but bear with me.

He weighed roughly 40 lbs. and was beat up and was just sad to look at. Well he was only suppose to stay a week, isn't that the story! The two directors of My Heart's Desire were going out of town and Mickey needed some serious TLC so he came to the CheeseHound household, mainly cause I'm the hound loving volunteer.

Mickey was here for a few days and the left side of his neck started to swell. A trip to the vet left us with questions. It turned out to be an abscess, which by the time the vet drained it was roughly the size of a grapefruit. Poor man wound up with two drains in his neck. Talk about yuck!!!

This was a first for me! As horrific as this looks Mickey's neck healed beautifully!!!

Then we had neuter surgery. Another first for me... I've only ever owned female dogs. Once more he healed beautifully! By this time Mickey had been at our house for about a month and we were fine with it!

All of our blog followers know about Mickey's heartworm treatment. Fortunately not a first for me, I've been through heartworm treatment a few times before. It's not a fun time for human or dog.

Mickey had put on weight and been through all sorts of craziness and was ready for a home!!! Last official weight I had on him was 72lbs!!!!

I brought him to My Heart's Desire on Saturday, because the shelter was having a July 4th event!

Mickey was hanging out in a crate and I was running around cleaning crates and doing the volunteer thing. I got called over because a young guy was looking at Mickey! This guy came in looking for a calm, small dog. Well after a lot of talking and a nice walk outside with Mickey, he decided to adopt him.

After a call to the vet, Mickey was adopted! Turns out his new home is two blocks behind the shelter. Mickey will be an only dog but his new grandma has two shar pei's and a labradoodle for Mickey to play with!

I couldn't be happier for Mickey! I, of course, cried and I miss him lots and lots but this was the whole point of fostering him and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

We had an awesome adventure this past weekend!

One of our fellow shelter pups, Star, had a birthday so the shelter threw her a luau party. Star turned 16 and is still available for adoption. She's a sweetie!

Being foster dogs we were invited to the party so we could maybe meet some nice family to take us home.

It was lots of fun! We got to meet lots of nice people and eat some good treats. There was free hamburgers and hot dogs for the humans!

Well we didn't meet any families who wanted to take us home but that's ok cause we like it here! Although 6 dogs and 2 rats, yes rats, were adopted during Star's party!

Our new cousin, Rosalie

Well we got a new cousin a few weeks back. The Sister, our momma's sister, adopted a cute Pug/Chihuahua mix whose name is Rosalie! We waited and waited and finally Momma had The Sister and Rosalie over for lunch yesterday!

Well Mickey kinda scared her at first. He is a very big pup! Then Droopy chased poor Rosalie and barked at her. Then everybody settled down and Rosalie and Kayah wound up playing!!

I gotta tell you a secret!

We were so happy to see Kayah play with Rosalie. Kayah has a tough time playing, mainly cause she can't see who she's playing with. Mickey tries to play with Kayah but he winds up bopping her too hard and she gets all upset!

We had a lovely afternoon. We hope Rosalie will come visit us again soon!!!!!

Bath Time for a Good Cause

Let's start with the back story before we blog about our adventure.

Millie

The CheeseHounds have a friend at momma's work named Mille. She is a very sweet chocolate labrador who has a very rare form of cancer sickies. It's got a really long crazy name that we can't remember. Millie is one of between 8 and 12 doggies in the US with this type of cancer sickies. Millie's momma had a Hot Dawg Wash to help raise kibble monies for Millie's chemo treatments! And of course the CheeseHounds attended!

Now our adventure begins:

Momma had told us about the Hot Dawg Wash and so Saturday morning Mickey and Droopy were loaded into the car. Side note: Smiley had gone to work with momma the two days before and was basically a basset shaped lump on the sofa. Kayah does not like new places and hates baths so she was not a good choice for this adventure.

While Mickey was getting his bath, Droopy had her own personal human hand-toweling her off. She was a very happy basset hound.

Once we were done Momma talked, ate a gourmet hot dog, shared some bits of hot dog with us, and did a bunch of boring human stuff! Then it was time to go home.

We didn't even make it home before we had to nap from all the excitement!

Super Trooper Drooper

Droopy here!

I have had a busy busy week and it's only Tuesday!

Stupid t-shirt! But it's extra long just for bassets!

After days and days of wearing a silly shirt Momma took me to the vet on Monday and had my stitches taken out!

No more stitches!!!!!!!!

The vet and the vet techs said my belly healed super well!!! The vet also got back my lab results from my funny lump. It was a low-grade cancerous lump. I've had one other lump like this. I don't have to do chemo or anything; Momma just has to watch out for more lumpy bumpies!

Then today Momma told me it was time to go back to the eye doctor.

Mom I don't want to go to the eye doctor!

The eye doctor was the same. Lots of drops, shiny lights in my eyes, and whatnot.

Not a happy Droopy!

Momma said I was very good, even though I whined and grumbled throughout the entire visit. The doctor said I still lots of drops but I don't mind.

Momma was loading me into the car when I heard her say 'Hey look there's Fetch!' and I replied 'What's fetch? I know of no such word.'

Well we have a new doggie store in New Orleans called Fetch! and it's across the street from the eye doctor! Of course Momma and I beelined it over to the store!

I though it was an awesome store! Lots of treats, foodables, toys, bowls, and shampoos! Momma bought me a bag of delicious crunchy liver treats, which I was told I have to share with Smiley, Kayah and Mickey. Too bad cause those treats are yummy!!!!!!

Then Momma drove us home and I immediately went to my busy day of napping.

Well back to my nap!

P.S. These two are so silly!

P.S.S. Momma here:

I know the cancerous lump thing sounds a bit scary but let me explain. Droopy was spayed late in life, when she was 9. Droopy is an old lady who is prone to funny lumps. I found a lump 3 years ago, which was also cancerous. Our vet feels that with the lumps being so small, the fact that the entire lump has been removed, with no signs of it spreading anywhere else, and the fact that it is low grade that we don't have anything to worry about. We keep an eye out and have managed to catch both lumps when they were extremely small; we're talking pea sized! So no worries! I hate putting Droopy through surgery to have the lumps removed but the last lump was cancerous and so was this one so I feel like I'd rather be safe then sorry.

Super Droopy Returns

Please excuse my delay is posting about my splurgery but I've been resting.

My teeth are nice and shiny and clean! Plus I didn't have to have any of them pulled.

I also had a small lump removed from my mammary area. I have about 15 stitches. I'm doing well with them but they're so itchy so Momma's forced me to wear this silly shirt.

The v-e-t also took more pictures of my bladder stone. And good news: it hasn't gotten any bigger. Hurray!!!!!!! Meanwhile, the v-e-t is trying me out on a super duper bladder stone dissolving food!

I think the new food is delicious while Momma thinks it looks and smells gross! If it makes my bladder stone go away who cares!

Well time to back to recuperating!

Paws Crossed

Keep your paws crossed for Droopy today! She's going to the vet to have her teethies cleaned, get a small lump removed and get some x-rays of her bladder stone.

Droopy got a clean bill of health last week at the vet but there were just a few things that needed to get taken care of, like the funny lump. We always worry about Droopy getting anesthesia since she is an old lady but the vet did blood work and everything came back ok!

Back to the eye doctor!

We have been horrible bloggie friends and haven't been reading blogs! We hope you'll forgive us and we will be catching up with our bloggie friends, post haste!

Well it's been 6 months and it was time to go back to the eye doctor.

Mom, can we go home now???

I don't really like going to the eye doctor, there's way too many funny drops and weird shiny lights in my eyes. Like this:

This is the eye doctor checking the pressure in my eyes. Basset Hounds are prone to growl-cloma, which is where the fluid in your eye creates pressure and can hurts lots! It can also lead to blindness!

Then the stupid eye doctor turned out the lights and shined this really bright light in my eyes!!! He was checking the lenses in my eyes. Apparently the tiny blood vessels over my corneas are very inflamed. Whatever that means! Because of all the nice weather we're having down here, the pollen from the plants is everywhere and is making my eyes all red and ouchie!

So the eye doctor said More Eye Drops!!!! I now get 5 eye drops everyday, instead of 3! Momma says I'm super good about my eye drops.

Now some happy news!

The Foster Dogs!

I thought I'd blog about the foster hounds today cause they've had lots going on!

First off Kayah

Kayah's heartworm treatment is going super well! She'll go back to the V-E-T and get rechecked for heartworms in a few weeks and hopefully she'll be cleared and then we can help find her a home!

Plus Momma's been working on some training with Kayah. Kayah was abandoned in a garage for a while so she forgot that doggies go potty in the grass. The training is going well and Kayah is learning to love the feel of grass under her feet again!

Mickey got neutered on Monday! He wasn't too happy about it but it had to happen. He hasn't licked his incision once, probably cause Momma continues to threaten him with the Cone of Shame!

Mickey has also been working on training with Momma. He knows Stay, Come, Look, and No and he's making progress with Sit and Off. He loves training! Momma thinks Mickey could make an awesome agility or therapy doggie since he's so sweet and works so hard.

And then there's Roy!

I've haven't mentioned Roy before cause he's a foster dog at Momma's work. Roy is with the Looziana Basset Rescue, which is our local basset rescue. Momma is, of course, in love with Roy. He's 7 years old but doesn't act like it. He also has dry eyes like I do but he's really good about his eye drops.

Kayah's Heartworms Round 2

Hey everydoggie

Well Ms. Kayah is going for her second (and hopefully last) round of heartworm treatment today!

So please say some puppy prayers that everything goes ok!

I know we've been asking for lots of puppy prayer and crossed paws but it seems to go with being a foster home for these homeless pups!

I can add on a happy note, Mickey funny neck bump got figured out and he didn't need splurgery! Although there is talk of him going and getting tutored soon.

Hopefully our next post will be Smiley and I in our Barkus costumes!

Hey Everybody

Droopy here! We hope everybody had a wonderful valentine's day!

So you might be wondering why I have a black blanket. Well it's not a blanket it's part of my costume for my favorite event of the year!

Barkus is approaching!!!!!!!!!!

For our friends who don't know Barkus is a dog-only parade! And it is the bestest doggie event in New Orleans! Hurray!!!!!! Plus the theme this year is Broadway!

Can you believe that Kayah has the dirtiest ear in the house?!?!??! We blame in on the labra-dork in her!

Mickey is currently spending time at the V-E-T cause his weird bump came back! Even though he's a CheeseHound FosterDude we still love him lots! Please keep your paws crossed for him.

Kayah starts heartworm treatment!

Hey everybody! Droopy here

We need lots of good doggie vibes for Kayah. She started heartworm treatment today.

Heartworm treatment is a very scary thing for a pup to go through. The v-e-t takes a big needle and injects medicine into your back and it starts killing all these scary worms that are stuck to the doggie's heart. The doggie has to stay very calm and there can be no walkies or running around or any fun for weeks and weeks!!!!

While Kayah is at heartworm treatment Smiley and I hung out with Momma and napped alot. But then Momma said it was time for BATHS!!!!

But then we got tasty treats for being such good girls!!! Hurray!!!

So much for a healthy new year

Hey everybody! Smiley here!

How exciting this is my first post!!!

Well we had all hoped for a happy and healthy new year. We've done pretty well with the happy but for me not so much with the healthy! I had to go to the vet!!

First off my ears have been kinda itchy and I'd been shaking my head a fair amount. Momma thought I had ear mites but when she checked my ears she didn't see any. Then Sunday night she noticed I had funny lump on both ears. They were soft squishy bumps. Momma said it was time to go to the vet so off we went Monday morning.

Can you see how they tortured me?!?!?!?

Well my funny lumps were hematomas, or little pockets of blood in my ears! All the shaking I had done caused me to break blood vessels in both my ears. Ruh-roh! Well the vet thought that maybe I had an ear infection, which was causing me to shake my head. The vet then said Momma had to leave me at the vet, which was no fun!

They made me take a nap and when I woke up they had flushed out my ears and drained my funny lumps. What did my lumps do to them?!?! Well I've been pretty groggy since then but my ears are feeling much better except when Momma puts those stupid ear drops in!

And just so you don't miss them here are Droopy and Kayah, packing up the Christmas decorations!

Christmas and Droopy's Gotcha Day

Hey everybody! Droopy here!

We hope everybody had a great Christmas cause we sure did! We got some real neat presents.

We got a really cool puzzle game! And loads of plush toys and rawhide bones!

And a really comfy blanket from our friends, Missy and Cisco.

Momma also got this really cool basset necklace.

And this guy showed up Christmas Day. We've named him Nick.

But the bestest Christmas present was

ME!!!!!!!!!!!

Momma got me as a Christmas present 12 years ago! That picture is of me and Momma the first day we met. Let's just say it was love at first sight and she refused to put me down the entire day! And we've been together ever since!

Quiet days

Hey everybody! Droopy here

It's been very quiet around here so we haven't had much to blog about. Momma's computer is having issues with getting pictures on it so this will be a post without photos.

Smiley and I have been going to work with momma a whole bunch.

Kayah got to go to work too! But she didn't go play with all the other pups. Kayah had to go to the Southern Animal Foundation (or SAF) to get medicine to get ready for her heartworm treatment. SAF is the V-E-T that the rescue group Kayah belongs to goes to. They offer low cost check ups and spay and tutorings!

Plus our friend Violet is staying over at our house this week! She's an honorary basset while she stays with us, even though she's really a pitbull!

Well that's all for now. Hopefully we will be able to post pictures soon cause this post is really boring without pictures!

I have been busy! But first the big announcement!!!!!

The CheeseHound household has expanded!

On the left is Smiley and on the right is Kayah. And me on the floor!

Smiley is a very very petite basset girl who is about 4 years old and she totally loves my dad.

While Kayah is a foster dog, which Momma tells me means she's not staying forever but until she finds her own special humans. Kayah is about bassador (a basset/labradork mix), is 8 years old and is blind.

They both passed the test to be a member of the CheeseHound household: they like cheese and peanut butter and I think they are ok!

The reason I have been so busy is cause it has finally cooled off in Louisiana! Which means the doggie events are in full swing. I've been to Barktober, Dog Day Afternoon, and Pet Fest! Pictures to come.

Well there is plenty more to post about but then that would be a loooooooonnnnnngggggg post! So that's it for now.

Two Vet Visits In One Day

Thank you to everybody for the well wishes at the eye doctor! It went super well!

Well Momma told me Tuesday morning that it was time to go visit the eye doctor again. I have lots of eye problems and so I have to go get eye check ups twice a year. We hopped in the car and headed that way. My favorite part of the ride was when Momma drove by the bayou, cause there were so many awesome smells.

A bayou, or bye-you as Momma says it, is a wide slow moving river that are really common in Louisiana. Lots of cool animals live in bayous including fish, turtles and ducks!

Once we made it to the eye doctor we had to wait a little while.

Can we go home yet???

Then the doctor showed up and put drops in my eyes and shined really really bright light in my eyes.

And I acted like a lady the whole time! I didn't even growl at the doctor once! Momma was super proud of me. The doctor said my eyes look good and Momma should keep putting in the drops she already does. Hurray!!!!

Please excuse the serious lack of photos in the next part of the blog! You'll understand when you read through it!

Momma was so excited that things at the eye doctor went so well that she said we could go to the Nola City Bark, which is the dog park we go to. Momma packed me back in the car and off we went. There was only one other dog at the park. Momma scooped me up and put me on the ground to go into the park. Well one of my back legs hurt so I didn't want to walk. I tried to hop around on one back leg but Momma found that unacceptable!

Momma scooped me up and put me back in the car and called my normal vet. They told Momma to bring me on in. A little while later there we were at Dr. Bell's office but for some reason there was no Dr. Bell! Some strange man named Dr. Marshall was there instead.

He examined my leg and really couldn't find anything wrong so he told Momma I needed X-rays. Did you guys know the vet can take pictures of your insides?!?!?!?! Well I had no idea!

Well Dr. Marshall says I have bone spurs and arthritis in my back and I also have something called a bladder stone?!?! I don't remember swallowing any stones!

That Dr. Marshall still wasn't sure why I was limping so he gave Momma some medicine to hopefully help me stop limping and told me to get lots of rest and take it easy.

Momma has taken me to work with her the past two days so she could keep an eye on me. Too bad she won't let me go play with the other dogs so I've been stuck in a kennel. Momma did bring my comfy bed and bought me a cheese and bacon filled bone but I'm still mad at her.

Fast forward to today- My leg is feeling much better! No more limping! I'm still having a little bit of trouble getting up in the morning but that's it. Momma called Dr. Bell's office today and told them I am doing much better. They told Momma I need to finish my medicine and then I'll go back to Dr. Bell and we can figure out what to do about the arthritis and the bladder stone.

So many bassets so little time

Howdy!

Well I have been super busy helping Momma out at work! I got an awesome surprise at Momma's work the other day! Two beautiful basset boys to hang out with all day long.

Booker and Bama are foster dogs staying at Momma's work till they find nice basset-y homes. Booker is a big basset man. Momma says Booker's the biggest basset she's every seen! He's a really sweet basset man though!

Bama is a very young basset, only about 1 year old so he is still a bit crazy. All he wants to do is play, play, play! He also refuses to sit to pose for pictures!

It always makes me a bit sad when Momma packs me up to go home and I have to say bye to Booker and Bama, especially since they don't have their own humans to love on them at night.

A Return to Blogging

Hi Everybody

Droopy here! Momma and I have decided to start blogging again. It was a tough decision to come to but we missed our bloggie friends too much.

It has been very quiet around the CheeseHound household since Callie crossed the bridge. I have gotten to go to work with Momma, even though she leaves before the sun wakes up!

And if that's not fun enough I also get to go to lunch with Momma, where she feeds me bacon from her sandwich.

Callie's journey to the Rainbow Bridge was very quick but has left all of us heartbroken. Droopy seems lost, confused and sadden by the absence of Callie. Callie went and had another round of chemo yesterday. Dr. Liz changed Callie's chemo and she seems to be having some trouble adjusting to it.

Callie is running a fever and currently has no appetite so if everybody could say a little prayer for Ms. Callie that she feels better! We would all appreciate it!

We had a basset hound sleep-over the other day. Our friends, Missy and Cisco, from down the street were our honored guests.

Droopy, Missy and Cisco even helped Momma make soup for Missy and Cisco's human so she would feel better!

A note from Momma:

Missy and Cisco's human mom had to have surgery and she asked if Missy and Cisco could come hang out at our house for a day or two. Everybody had a great time and the surgery went super well!

Callie is still having some tummy issues added to the fact that her backside is raw! Poor darling is being subjected to having Boudreaux's Butt Paste applied to her backside twice a day. Not a chore either one of us enjoys.

Callie and the chemo round 6

I went for round 6 of my chemo last Wednesday. We're a little behind on the blogging!

To start off, we had guests in the car on the usual ride over Lake Potty Train. We had The Sister and two of Momma's younger cousins! Why the extra humans you ask? Well apparently a new little human was born last week and everybody wanted to go see her but the new little human lives on the other side of Lake Potty Train!

So off we went to cross Lake Potty Train! Momma and the rest of our group dropped me off at chemo. Momma told Jennifer, the vet tech, about the incident with my eye! Jennifer was concerned and said she would have Dr. Liz look at my eye.

Momma and the other humans went and saw the cute new little human and wound up leaving me at chemo for longer than normal. It's ok though cause Jennifer gave me Frosty Paws!

Yummers!

I apparently got it all over my ears and Jennifer's pants! But boy oh boy was it yummy!

Momma came and got me while everybody else was getting lunch! Dr. Liz looked at my eye and said it looked ok. I still have to have drops put in four times a day! And no more rubbing my face on the ground!

Once we were done at chemo Momma and I went and caught up with everybody else at lunch!

Momma even gave me a piece of her bacon off her sandwich! But I was more interested in stealing a bite of The Sister's BLT sandwich!

Once everybody was done lunch we hopped back in the car and headed home. Good thing cause boy oh boy was I tired from all my chemo medicine.

Nap time!

We dropped off all our passengers and a short while later we were home and it was dinner time!

Now in the time between last week and today I have been having alot of tummy trouble. Momma's been having to rinse my backside off pretty regularly, which is no fun!

Saturday night and Sunday morning Momma noticed I was having bloody poop! So she called Dr. Liz and let her know what was going on. Now I'm on another medicine to make me stop having bathroom issues!

Well that is all for now!

Scaring the 'you know what' out of Momma

I apparently scared the 'you know what' out of Momma yesterday.

Here's my story:

I had an upset tummy yesterday and let's just say I needed to have a bath to get cleaned up. I was dragged to the tub and scrubbed down with shampoo! Momma toweled me down and then I was off to do my post-bath zoomies!

Hurray for post-bath zoomies!

As you can see I like to rub my face on the floor. Well this is the point in which I scared the you know what out of Momma! I've mentioned the funny growth in the corner of my eye well when I was rubbing my face of the floor I rubbed my eye too hard! I got up from my zoomies and looked at Momma and my entire eye was full of blood! Momma immediately dove for the cotton balls and put pressure on my eye. Some pressure and a saline rinse later my eye looks better.

Momma couldn't see any damage but I'm going for chemo today so Momma's gonna bring this

incident up! Whoopsie!!!!!!!!!!!

Jambalaya

Momma made jambalaya the other night for dinner which means one thing for me and Callie: Turkey Sausage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there any sausage in there for us???

Jambalaya is a local Louisiana dish made with a roux, onions, rice, sausage and sometimes chicken. Momma always makes her jambalaya with turkey sausage and when she's cutting up the sausage she always tosses us little pieces. Yummers!!!!!

For me?

Too bad Callie and I are not allowed to eat any of the jambalaya cause it's got onions in it but that's ok with us since the sausage is the best part!!!

Give me that piece of sausage Momma!

Lots of stuff happening

Hey everybody

Droopy here

Sorry about our lack of blogging lately but there's been lots going on!!!!

First off, we have had nothing but rain the past few days so we have been stuck inside! When it's not raining it's sticky outside from the humidity. Apparently we have lots of humidity down in Louisiana. Thank dogness for air conditioning!!!!

Second, and our main reason for lack of bloggies lately, is Momma got something called a New Job. She gets up really early and is gone for half the day and we miss her lots. We have heard rumor about being allowed to go to work with Momma. Hmmmm...... more on that later.

Third, we have a new friend who is looking for a home. Momma started volunteering with a rescue group called My Heart's Desire. Our new friend is named Kayah and she is a bassador, a basset hound /labrador mix.

Isn't she cute????

Kayah is considered a senior hound cause she's 7 years old. We are sponsoring Kayah which helps her get to the vet so she's in good shape to go to a nice house. Kayah has two big hurdles though. She tested heartworm postitive, which happens in Louisiana cause we have so many mosquitos, and Kayah has trouble seeing. It is believed that Kayah can only see shadows but she still needs to go see the doggie eye doctor.

Momma got to visit Kayah last week and while Momma was talking to Kayah and lovin on her, Kayah would tilt her head this way and that way then find Momma and was like Oh! There you are!!!

So if you all could say a little prayer for Ms Kayah to find a good home that will understand her unique problem.

And last but not least:

Paw It Forward presents have officially been mailed off! Hurray!

Well that is our crazy life right now. Hopefully things will settle down and we will be able to post more soon!

Callie originally came to casa de Cheesehound as Sassy

but Momma and Dad didn't feel like that fit well.

After some thinking, Sassy was renamed Callie.

Although The Sister likes to call her Sappy.

And that's our names!

Callie and the Chemo Round 5 and lots of bad weather

I went for round 5 of my chemo today. Chemo went without a hitch but the ride from casa de Cheesehound and back was a little crazy!!!!!

Well we made it across Lake Potty Train ok, despite some moments where Momma refused to pet me, claiming she needed both hands on the steering wheel.

We made it to the Dr. Liz's office in one piece. Jennifer, Dr. Liz's vet tech, took me back for chemo and Momma went and ran errands. Got another patch of fur shaved off!!!! Dr. Liz said I'm looking good and responding to chemo well.

Two hours later me and Momma were on our way home or so we thought!! We got on the road to go back across Lake Potty Train. We have to get on a long bridge called the Causeway Bridge, well because of the bad bad weather the bridge was CLOSED!!!!!!!! So Momma quick turned around and made a phone call.

Well what a surprise! We went to Momma's cousin's house and they have two little humans who love me!!!!! I got petted and fed some of a roast beefie sandwich and got to climb a whole bunch of stairs!

I had so much fun with the little humans! The littlest human asked if I was gonna bite her! Momma told her I wouldn't but I would give kisses. Well the little human said she didn't want any kisses!!!

After about two hours of playing with the little humans Momma said that the big bridge was open again and the weather had cleared up enough that we could head home.

Momma and I hopped back in the car and off we went! The weather was still pretty yuckers so I had to help Momma navigate! Finally after being gone from home for hours we made it back!

I'm gonna go lay down now cause Dr. Liz gave me some Benadryl with my chemo and I've been really sleepy.

Chemo went smoothly! Callie's weight is up and her appetite is still good. She is back on the probiotic only because she's been having bathroom issues again. All in all one of the worst trips across the lake and back ever!

Wet Wednesday

Hey everybody! Callie here!

We have had two wet and sticky days!!! It has been raining for almost all day for the past two days! When it's not raining it's sticky outside. Yuck! Yuck! Yuck!

So after much complaining from yours truly and Droopy too Momma broke out the raincoats!

No pictures please!

Droopy has been especially grumpy with all the rain and thunders! There's been alot of Droopy's crazy hiding antics!

I don't see any rain!

Then to make a wet day even worse Momma informed us we were going to the vet's office for a spa day!!!!

No! Momma don't leave us!

She left us anyway. Meanie human! It's cool though cause we always get lots of love at Dr. Bell's office. Momma came and got us a short while later. Now she's claiming we smell much better! Crazy human!

Well now it's time to go catch up on our beauty sleep.

Hey everybody!

Callie here!!

I did super well with my new chemo last week and figured I was over due for an update on the bloggie!

My new chemo is given to me via IV instead of a pill so I had to stay at the Doctor Liz's office for twice as long! The only good part about the IV is that Jennifer, Dr. Liz's vet tech, sat with me and loved on me while I had my IV in and I got a cute pink bandage to go home with!

Dr. Liz was happy to see how peppy I was and was super glad to hear that my appetite was back.

Once Momma and I got home from crossing Lake Pottytrain she took my bandage off and was surprised to see that I had a big piece of fur shaved off of my leg for my IV!

I was super sleepy after chemo. Momma said that Dr. Liz put Benadryl in my IV cause sometimes doggies have funny reactions to the chemo and the Benadryl helps prevent those funny reactions.

Since Wednesday I've been doing super! Momma says I have a really good appetite again! I even woke Momma up early today because I was ready for my breakfast an hour earlier than normal.

Momma noticed a few weeks ago I was growing this funny bump in the corner of my left eye so Dr. Liz took a look at it, then took some pictures and pee-mailed them to a doggie eye doctor she works with lots. The eye doctor thinks the funny bump is just part of my cancer. So last week Dr. Liz told Momma to do eye drops FOUR times a day!!!!!!!! But I get some special treats, that Droopy isn't allowed to have! HA! The eye drops are ok. Sometimes I let momma put the drops in real quick and sometimes I fight momma and won't let her come near me with the drops!

Momma Update:

Callie has had a complete turn around! She is ravenous most day! I'd much rather a puppy that is eating me out of house and home versus one that refuses to eat. She wants nothing to do with the eye drops most days. Trying to give the drops as quick as possible and give her a treat as quickly as possible after, which is what we did with Droopy, but Callie just isn't a fan. Her "special treats" are a probiotic that are intended to help the bacteria in Callie's stomach and bowel so she doesn't have so many bathroom issues. The bathroom issues have thankfully settled down!

Her appetite is back, her energy is back, she's all playful again! Hurray!!! There's still an occasional bathroom issue but hopefully that will settle down! Callie goes for a new chemo treatment on Wednesday.

Tough times for Callie

Hi Everybody!

Droopy here with some shiny teethies! Dr. Bell pulled two of my teeth, apparently they were looking kinda bad so they needed to come out. No biggie! My mouth was a little sore for a few days but feeling much better now.

Now on to news about Callie.

Callie had a very rough Memorial Day weekend. She didn't eat too much despite the fact that Momma is cooking her gourmet meals and I'm still getting stupid kibble- although I get a tidbit or two slipped to me on occasion. There were also some bathroom issues that I won't go into because I don't want to embarrass Callie. Callie's been pretty miserable; sleeping a lot, laying around looking pitiful, and in general not being her usual Callie-happy self.

Callie was scheduled for round 4 of chemo today. While in the car on the way Callie threw up in Momma's car. Yuckers! Momma had a talk with Dr. Liz about how Callie's chemo is going and what the future holds for Callie. Basically, chemo is no longer helping Callie. Her liver enzymes are super high and the lack of appetite and energy is not good so Callie's on two new medicines and more prednisone. If Callie does not improve within the next few days then there is not much more anyone can do.

We all upset at the news and are asking for lots and lots and lots of prayers for Callie.

Callie here! Droopy is at the vet's office today getting her teethies cleaned so it's just Momma and me today.

That's fine with me cause I haven't been feeling well lately. My tummy hurts most days and I'm just not interested in kibble. I've been eating rice and chicken with some sweet potatoes or peas. Momma says my liver enzymes are still very high. Well I'm gonna go back to my nap before grumpy Droopy comes home.

I went for my yearly vet visit today.

I've gained 7 pounds so I now weigh 54 pounds! Dr. Bell said I could stand to lose a little weight. My eyes look good and my ears look good. Some of my teeth aren't looking so good but then again I'm almost 12 years old. Other than that I got a clean bill of health from Dr. Bell!

Callie is doing well this week. She's pretty pooped out, which isn't that uncommon after her chemo. Her appetite is kinda off kilter this week too. Sometimes she has to be prompted to eat and sometimes she cleans the entire food bowl without a second glance.

Well it's almost dinner time, gotta go annoy momma!

Callie and the Chemo Round 3 and a ruff couple of days

I'm taking over the blog so Callie can rest. We're had a crazy couple of ruff doggie days.

Callie went to chemo yesterday and I won't bore you with the details. Callie and Momma did have to stay at Dr. Liz's an extra little bit because another doggie was there getting it's chemo before Callie.

Jennifer, Dr. Liz's vet tech, talked to Momma about Callie liver. She said Callie's liver enzymes were super elevated and Callie needed to go on some special medicine. The medicine is made from milk thistle and should help Callie's liver. The only bad thing is if Callie's liver doesn't get better than Dr. Liz and Momma are gonna have think about changing Callie's chemo.

Other than that Callie is doing pretty well with her chemo.

Earlier in the week we found out that our friend Dodger (he's not a bloggie doggie) got hit by a car.

His Momma had to bring him to the doggie emergency room. He's gonna be ok- he had to get 15 stitches and has a concussion.

We also found out that one of our favorite rescue groups, The Sula Foundation, lost their namesake. Sula was a famous puppy! Her Daddy writes doggie books and put her on the cover of one of his books!

We are very sad that Sula is gone. She was a stunning example of how super sweet pit bulls can be!

Cake culprit

We have a cake culprit in our house!!!! Oh nose!!!!!!

It all started with our Dad's birthday on Friday so Momma brought home a ginormous cookie, that the humans are claiming is really a cake. Momma told us it was a chocolate chip cookie cake so it was not basset hound friendly!

This giant cookie was left on the kitchen table and a chair wasn't pushed in all the way and the cake culprit struck!!!!

Seems to us the cookie culprit couldn't open the box!

Oh no!!!!! The culprit licked a whole bunch of icing off of Dad's cake!!!!!

We have no idea who this cake culprit could be!!!!!!!

It certainly wasn't us!!!!!

Our special guest's visit!

Well my little human, Nikki, came over on Thursday! I was super happy to see her again!

Look how cute we are!

Droopy and I had a great visit with Nikki!! She even bought me some presents! Nikki brought me some treats (which I am forced to share them with Droopy), a really cute picture of herself with a guitar, a get-well card, and a super warm cuddly pink blanket!

My new blanket is my favorite. When I don't feel good it is perfect for curling up on for a nice nap!!

Nikki petted Droopy and I lots, which we both loved. She also asked Momma lots of questions about my chemo, like what kinds of medicine I have to take, how often I go for my chemo, and if it make me sickies. My Nikki is a very smart little human even though she has her own sickies. Nikki has As-burger syndrome; she is very shy and has lots of trouble in school so she gets to do school at home! Even though Nikki has trouble in human school she is very smart. She told Momma that she is gonna help raise money to help pay for my chemo! Momma thought this was very sweet!

Finally Droopy and I went outside and played in the backyard with Nikki.

Playing with Nikki was lots of fun! But then her momma said it was time to go home. Our Momma and Nikki's momma made plans to visit again since we had such a great time!

I hope she comes to visit again soon!

Callie's Journey to becoming a Cheese Hound

I posted about my super special guest earlier and about how the little girl was who found me. Momma thought it would be a good idea if I told the whole story to truly explain how special this little human is to me.

It started with Momma wanting a doggy friend for Droopy. She and our dad talked and talked about it for months. Finally Dad gave in and said Droopy could get a friend!

Meanwhile, literally on the other side of the Missy Slippy River from Casa de Cheesehounds I was roaming the streets, starving with no humans or other puppies to love me. The little human, whose name is Nikki, saw me walking around on a very very busy street so she and her mom offered me food and got me to go into their backyard. They fed me and then tried to find my humans. No one came forward to claim me so Nikki's mom contacted ARNO,

the Animal Rescue of New Orleans, to try and find me a human to love. Nikki really wanted to keep me and had already named me Sassy but she already had three doggies.

By this time Momma's family had heard that she was looking for a new puppy and the news passed through the grapevine until Nikki's mom found out and e-mailed Momma. Momma thought I was too cute and she talked to Dad and they agreed to foster me while filling out adoption papers.

This is what I looked like when I came home with Momma and Dad. I weighed between 30 and 35 pounds. I now weigh between 45 and 50 pounds.

When Momma and Dad went and picked me up from Nikki's house, Nikki was very sad and didn't want me to leave so Momma agreed to keep in touch with Nikki's mom and send them pictures frequently. In the meantime Momma and Dad were filling out the papers to adopt me. Everything was settled and I was officially a cheesehound on December 1st of 2007!

Hmmmm....... I'm getting sleepy so I guess I'll post about Nikki's visit tomorrow!! There are lots of pictures to post.

Callie and the Chemo Round 2

Callie had her second round of chemo on Monday.

Callie and Momma drove all the way over Lake Potty Train to see Dr. Liz. Jennifer, Dr. Liz's vet tech, came out and talked to Momma about how Callie had been doing. Momma told Jennifer about the incident of Callie not eating but said once Callie did start eating she felt much better. Jennifer was concerned but glad to hear Callie was doing well. Then she took Callie in the back for her second round of chemo. The vet techs weighed Callie and poked and prodded her, gave Callie the chemo medicine and let her lay down. Momma showed up, paid the bill and home they came. Jennifer did say that Callie had lost 1.5 pounds, which wasn't anything to worry about. Also Callie's lymph nodes shrank 1 centimeter!! Hurray!!!!!! This means that the chemo medicine is doing a good job!!

Callie is sleeping a lot, which is ok. You can kinda see Callie doesn't quite feel her usual crazy happy basset self but we aren't gonna worry! The chemo medicine is hard on Callie and as long as she is eating lots of kibbles and still happy we are ok with that!!

I think it's just an act around Momma. Cause Callie looks all sick and pitiful and then she jumps up and starts rolling around on the ground trying to play.

Camp Bow Wow

On Friday we went to doggy day care at a place called Camp Bow Wow. We got a free pass for doggy day care when we went to Dog Day Afternoon.

When we got there the lady who owns Camp Bow Wow, Ms. Deb was very very happy to see us! She was very nice and gave us lots of loves. Ms. Deb brought into the play area, where we meet all the other doggies we got to play with.

Momma filled out some papers about us and then got a tour of Camp Bow Wow. Momma thought it was super nice and said if we liked doggy day care then we might be able to sleep over there if Momma and Dad went out of town. Ms. Deb showed Momma the play area where we were. There was an inside area, nice and cool with plenty of water buckets, and there was an outside area with a doggy pool and agility stuff to play on. Momma said "Bye" and then headed out to run boring errands all day!

So we play and played and played with all the other puppies. There was even another basset fellow at Camp Bow Wow. We think his name was Toby and he was very handsome! There was a Doberman and some Labradorks too!!!!!!! We napped and ran around and when we laid down to take a break the trainers there thought we laid in funny position. Droopy is notorious for her froggy sit.

Finally Momma and Me-me came and picked us up! Good thing because it was dinner time!!! Too bad there were lots of cars on the road and we had to take the long way home.

We got to enjoy the wind and the nice sunshine on the ride home. Momma had all the windows rolled down since the weather was super pretty.

We were both tired and after a while the sleepies over took us and we fell asleep in the car.

Finally we got home and ate our dinner and it was bedtime!!!!!

Oh we should add that we got diplomas from completing our first time at Camp Bow Wow!

The diplomas even have our pictures on them! Although Droopy's picture is blurry- she never sit still for pictures!

We also got a magnet for Momma's Jeep.

We do dig Camp Bow Wow!

We really hope Momma brings us back soon. We had lots of fun!!!!!!

I thought I would take over the blog and post about my first chemo treatment.

My first chemo treatment was last Monday. Momma and I had to ride all the way across Lake Potty Train.

The ride across Lake Potty Train is pretty long and it takes about an hour to get to the oncologist but I don't mind the ride cause I LOVE riding in the car! One reason the ride is so long is because the bridge across Lake Potty Train is the longest bridge in the world-24 miles long to be exact! Now that's a long walk!

My oncologist is named Dr. Liz Kergosien and she and her staff are very nice and like to love on me the whole time I am there. When we got to the clinic on Monday we had to wait a while for the staff. There was a beautiful boxer named Molly there but she kept growling at me. Guess she didn't want to be friends. After such a long car ride and such a long wait, I signaled to Momma that I needed to leave some pee-mail outside. While we were outside Dr. Liz's vet tech came out and talked to Momma about my treatment, told Momma I'd be about an hour and then took me inside.

The vet techs weighed me, took my temperature, poked and prodded me, checked to make sure my liber and spleen weren't too big. Finally they gave me my chemo medicine and let me lay down. A little while later Momma showed up and home we went!

Dr. Liz warned Momma that my tummy might hurt, I might not want to eat my kibbles, I could throw up, have no energy, have a fever, or have bruises.

Well I was doing ok until Wednesday morning. Momma put my food bowl down and my tummy was hurting a little so I left some of my breakfast. Momma wasn't worried cause Dr. Liz had warned her about it. Dinner time rolled around and I didn't want dinner. Breakfast time Thursday morning and I still wasn't feeling so good. Now Momma was starting to worry. She tried giving me yummy treats but I didn't want any.

Finally for dinner on Thursday Momma cooked me some rice and mixed it with some smooched up canned dog food. It smelled really yummy but I wasn't sure about and only took two bites so Momma gave me some time for my tummy to adjust to the food in my belly. Half an hour later she offered me more food; two more bites and I was done. Momma offered me the plate of food every half hour until it was gone. It took five hours but I finally ate the whole dinner and boy did I feel better!

Momma told me if I hadn't eaten dinner I would have had to go back to Dr. Liz's office where they could have stuck me full of needles!!!!

After a day of not eating then finally getting some food I was finally feeling better and was running around and wagging my tail and cuddling with Momma instead of just sleeping.

Then yesterday Momma said I had to go see Dr. Bell, my normal vet, to get some blood work done. So off we went and everybody at Dr. Bell's office was happy to see me and was glad I was doing so well with chemo. I was happy to see them too! I was wagging my tail and giving kisses. My favorite vet tech, Kelly, took me in the back and took my blood and then we went home!

Part 1:
We went to Dog Day Afternoon last Sunday. It had rained the night before so it was chilly that day but we didn't mind. We should tell you that the LASPCA hosts Dog Day Afternoon every year and all of the money made that day goes to running the LASPCA!

Before we got to Dog Day Afternoon we stopped and picked up Me-me and The Sister. Now we haven't mentioned The Sister before; she's momma's sister and she likes to come over and love on us big time but she's kinda crazy and doesn't always come to doggie events with us. She also has a nickname for Callie and it is Sappy. Get it- Droopy and Sappy. Momma doesn't find it amusing.

The Sister

We got to Dog Day Afternoon, we roamed around, visiting different booths. We got a free pass to Camp Bow Wow, which is a doggie day care and boarding facility, We walked around some more and got lots of good treats. The Sister got a hot dog with blue cheese on it and shared some blue cheese with us. Yummers!!!!! Momma bought a t-shirt with the Dog Day Afternoon logo on it. Me-me bought us "Wag Dat" doggie shirts and Momma bought raffle tickets for a basket full of yogurt milkbones.

We also bumped into a lovely gentleman named Dudley. Dudley Woo-woo to be exact. We had met him at Barkus but Momma had failed to take his picture.

We decided to head out early because Me-me and The Sister were complaining about how cold they were. As we started to head back to Momma's car they started to announce the raffle winners and guess who they called first!!!! The Cheesehounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We went home with a basket full of yogurt covered milkbones!!! YUMMERS!!!!!! We've been sharing them, we promise!

Sorry about the serious lack of pictures from our adventures at Dog Day Afternoon. It was very cold and Momma said her fingers were frozen in her pockets!!!!

Dasher lived a few miles away from us and one day he was roaming around and got hit by a car!!!!!!! Someone picked him up and brought him to the Humane Society. Both of Dasher's back legs and hips were broken. When we found out about Dasher, back in December, he had been at the Humane Society for a few days and the people who ran the shelter was trying to raise money for him!!!
